I shopped around for different distros for a while and landed here and haven't wanted to switch. Compiling stuff is largely for the fun of it, I get to play a minimalism game where I only install what I need and I compile what I use. It's basically as close as I get to fully configuring my system myself without going all out and doing LFS which is a little too much autism for me. Having a wiki and a community to fall back on when I don't know how to do something is nice, and otherwise just setting up my tty login to launch xinitrc and putting stuff there is enjoyable. Overall, the less "black box" there is the more I like it, so actually fluffing with the config files for stuff is nice. Once you set it up it pretty much just works, but the setup is long and involved. I also would not recommend it if you don't have a decent computer because otherwise you're compiling overnight most of the time.
After switching to a window manager I could never go back to a desktop environment. Doing things with keybinds and just getting stuff always fullscreen is cool. Mentally I know where I put my windows so if I need to go somewhere I just press one or two keys on my keyboard and I'm there, I launch terminals with a dedicated keybind, I use dmenu to quick launch stuff from anywhere easily. Quite nice at least for the level of autism I'm willing to put into my computer (which I think everyone should to some extent, blindly using windows and just pressing big shiny buttons to do what you need to do is lame normalfag behavior)
