I'm thinking of writing an anthro story set in a grimdark fantasy universe where at the end, after many trials and tribulations and many deaths and losses and dark stuff, etc. the protagonists defeat the bad guy with the power of friendship.

I know it’s the whole point of 40k but any time I see anything about its lore I just think why can’t they put aside their differences for both their sakes?

hostile factions teaming up happens in 40k too, space marines team up with tau to kill tyranids, necrons team up with mechanicus, eldar team up with imperial navy. there's literally a subfaction of orks that will work with other species for gold

>why can’t they put aside their differences for both their sakes?
because every factions goals are so different/hostile to each others goals that teaming up puts both sides at a disadvantage in the long run.

tau can't expand because a tyranid hive fleet ate all the worlds around them, so are forced to expand into imperial space for territory and resources.

elder are too weak to be good allies, deldar don't want to risk being eaten by slaanesh by making allies, harlequins are retarded.

necrons hate other lifeforms and want to dominate the galaxy by themselves, they would never ally with another race (excluding trayzyn)

imperium and mechanicus are bound by the imperial truth to enact total xeno death, so only work with aliens if they aren't religious zealots.

chaos is chaos and tyranids are tyranids, but some tyranid fleets will ignore non chaos factions in favour of chaos factions, because they're specially adapted to fighting chaos.

The joke is the anticlimactic ending. Though I suppose a story like that can be made as a joke. Might be kind of funny but a lot of people would probably be pissed at the end.

The 'foo lore is getting out of control, the fatfags and fitfags need to put aside their differences or the goof locusts will devour the entire website!

The locusts are far too goofy to pose a threat.

I feel like at least the elder would be viable and I’m pretty sure at least in the past some ork clans were allied. And the Tau is a grey zone I’ve heard some people say that they only seem aggressive due to the bias of the Imperium describing them. Either way we know they can change and I’m sure the empire would be strong enough to knock down and replace their current order.

If that Paw Print magazine ever gets made maybe I'll write this in.
