I wouldn't say "hate," exactly, though maybe some people do. They're a breed with a nasty, nasty reputation.
Now, stipulated, infurmation about "pitbull attacks" in USAian newsmedia are probably at least half bullshit, because everything American newspapers, TV news, etc., say about everything is bullshit.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gell-Mann_amnesia_effect in which normies, mainly Boomers and older, say "yeah, I'm a photographer, and everything they said in that story about the photography business is bullshit, they're either idiots or deliberately lying, maybe both. But I completely uncritically believe everything they say about everything else. They'd never lie! They know what they're doing!"
All of that having been said, pitbulls do have a reputation fur being vicious. I don't believe news stories about "pitbull attacks" until I see a picture of the dog and even then I'm not sure. But if you look you will see a lot of indisputable pitbull pictures in stories about toddlers getting their limbs torn off, neighborhood pets being killed, and little old lady "pibble mommies" getting their faces eaten by their pets. Pitbulls were bred fur mindless aggressiveness fur centuries upon centuries upon centuries, and it should not come as a surprise to anyone when they kill their owners.
It does not help one little bit that the "badass dog" tends to attract owners with room-temperature IQs, who think the "badass dog" will impress their buddies and give them "street cred" and don't think about it any further than that. They draw a certain kind of owner, who may feed the dog cocaine because it's "funny," or send the already-vicious, already-unstable, already-unpredictable dog to some cut-rate "security dog training" business located in a trailer park, then makes the Surprised Pikachu Face when it eats his kids.
Also, aesthetically speaking, they're fugly. They look defurmed. They look like mutant animals from some kind of 1970s dystopian sci-fi novel set in a post-nuclear wasteland. They're repugnant to look at. In a context of waifurs I am sad to say that looks matter a lot. Borzois, collies, wolves, spitzes, American Eskimo dogs, they could make pretty waifus. Pitbulls? No. Just no. What were you thinking?
