Any other nerds doing Advent of Code?

https://adventofcode.com/

I am doing this year in Rust fur fun. My code is ugly but it works

So far there hasn't been any difficult problems. I wonder when we'll get to the token pathfinding problem

Erm, use the thread sister...

https://anthro.foo/anthro/thread/77837.html#77837

I've told myself I'll start after I'm done with exams. In previous years I got retardedly competitive and woke up at silly hours to compete. Made global leaderboard a few times befure aiCHADS got access to grok 3.0 or whatever.

I think I'll probably do it in comfy C this year because I'll always be a linuxtranny at heart.

Oops, didn't see that.

I don't think I could ever get global leaderboard. In my mind I'm still a junior programmer, and also some of the algorithms used fur the problems are fureign to me because I never took compsci. I can usually get them done but it takes a while. Only benefit is my timezone where I can do the problems when they drop at a reasonable time

Don't be sorry, the other thread was a shitty joke. I'd say anyone who can get through a full Advent of code is in the single digit percentiles in terms of "programming" ability. It's a vague term, programming, but be proud that you have and have developed the intelligence and other skills needed to solve problems.

Most of my leaderboards were from being a fairly fast typist and doing simple early days in one pass, and from doing later days in weird ways that happen to work as opposed to more robust solutions that algorithmcels lean towards that take longer to implement, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you were about doing them year on year then I expect literally anyone could have got on the leaderboard at least a few times, what's more impressive is getting on it consistently.

Godspeed with the rest of the days btw.
Another easy one today
My cope: is that advent of code is a meme now, maybe it used to be good but now it's just a cult
Reality: I'm afraid of being too stupid and I don't want to disappoint myself

Me neither lol but so far I never once had to use algorithms. All I use are arrays and maps, everything else is just "architecture" or tools like writing SQL fur a database call, scanning rows, or using regex. Everything I ever done was glue work, and never once did I apply math or "think" too hard about a problem.

I just don't know if LeetCode or programming challenges are worth it, my time is limited and I'm not that good anyways I'd rather just focus on building a half-assed todo app but at least it workd.
Hard problems soon... right?

Cassandraanon can you teach me how to program in Rust? What should I do

Read the handbook to some amount and just try to make some simple programs
https://doc.rust-lang.org/stable/book/title-page.html
I am by no means an expert or even very good at the language, part of the reason I'm doing AoC with it is to help build my understanding. I only started learning this year fur work
Finally a decent problem, even if it's just DP
Fun problem today. Probably supposed to be some sort of linked list solution but I didn't do it that way so my code is slow as heck and takes almost a full second fur the regular input
Day 9 was a tough problem. Even my optimized solution took 50 seconds to run
what do you plan on doing with your rust coding in the future?

Maybe game design. Could be fun to build an engine. I hear godot has rust bindings though I don't know what the bindings are used fur in that case. Beyond that, my job, because I only learned it fur work and I want to keep my job

I've been wanting to get into N64 programming fur a while. Have the SDKs and modern dev kits. Just have to learn how multithreading and stuff works in addition to ending my procrastination towards the subject.
uh oh todays problem looks hard. this is going to be a long night

I wish you luck OP! I'm not the greatest at programming but I have began learning PHP in hopes of making something cool fur the 'foo
