Maybe, but a normal person is just as likely not to know what a furry is anyway. There's a lot of room fur semantics here because if we take normalcy by weighing the entire human population, it will be heavily skewed by rural Asians who won't know the term. And if we refer to our countries' populations, they are leaning towards the elderly who won't know the term either. Finally, if we measure based on the type of people we usually run into online, most of them are freaky one way or another anyway and are just eager to find someone even more freakier, to appear normal in comparison.
Besides, most of the "normal people" who know the term probably associate it with the kind of folks who have a fursona and wear fursuits to conventions and whatnot, who are a minority.
Labeling things that aren't univocally quantifiable or have a solid concrete and unambigous definition often serves little purpose other than uniting, dividing or provoking people (pic related) in accordance with the labeler's agenda.
