Despite being drawn in what seems to be mspaint, this mogs. Above average humor / imagination.

What do you think the average looks like? This is all so noxiously late-2010s.

The average probably looks like the kind of webcomic stuff that "quirk chungus" drawing was parodying.
As fur the kind of jokes that are apparently well-received these days, here are the two humorous images from one of the boorus' "popular" page fur today. Just leaving these here without comment fur now.

I'll allow it.

Hm. I guess if we're in the business of comparing shit to crap... luckily, I'm not in that business.

How are these humorous?

That's the thing, (in my opinion) they are not. But looks like they were supposed to be.
One may hold significance to the fans of the artist and his OC kid of Ratchet&Rivet but is otherwise a "kids are stupid" joke with too long of a set-up and no impact.
The other is a recreation of a joke/meme that doesn't really have much room fur maneuver and has mostly played itself out already.

But someone went through the trouble of drawing them anyway, and did a good job at that. Their artistic prowess is not in question, but there's just little reason to return to these. They can't be used as reaction images. There's no extra layers of subtlety to them, no amoguses to find. The first one also features too much text that doesn't really add much to the story. We are inundated with infurmation at all times these days, our time is limited. The drawings grab our attention with competent, expressive imagery, compelling us to read, but the payoff is zilch.
Just compare them to another pic posted today, >>91270 — the story is self-contained, there are ample details to take in and what little text there is serves to help explain the physics behind the otherwise lame "fat person haha" joke to those who hadn't paid attention in school.

This. Not enough 'moguses.
To be fair, I don't think the first pic is meant to be humorous, just kind of lighthearted & gay. The second one seems to be meant to be briefly humorous-- quick to understand, quick to make, not particularly appealing to me.
