Most of the times it's just a solid featureless background, with nothing to distract the viewer from observing and appreciating the fox. Even when she is clearly sitting on a surface. See Fig.1.
In the post quoted, however, the background would have probably been a bench or something, considering it would be very uncomfortable sitting cross-legged in a car. The reference/inspiration photo was that of a person holding onto his chicken sandwich as if his life depended on it. Thumbnailed, it looks reminiscent of Averi's hand. See Fig.2. (Trigger warning: black hand).

Adapting the fox to all sorts of scenarios and circumstances is part of the charm, like just put her anywhere and everywhere so that she's there too. Some racism now and then is inevitable for obvious reasons.
Repeatedly co-opting her to be one's mouthpiece pushing the same agenda each time is VikingTiger-tier of sad though.
