I can see now why HMOFA upsets some people. I just use it as a descriptor when it happens to occur in a story (which I don't mind) but I've come to realize that most people that use the term seem to fixate on it rather obsessively. They... "make it their entire personality" so to speak.

Maybe I don't get out enough. I thought raceplay, at least for USAians, was bound up with racial politics.  For example, when a huh-WITE! guy dates a Nubian queen, and she suddenly blurts out "I want you to shave your head and make me wear a dog collar and call me your nyagga pooch," that's raceplay.  not as uncommon as some would like to think, either

How does that work when it's different species, and people have these kinks that are rooted in history and politics?  In a world where humans and anthros coexist, what even are the history and politics?  What are the cultural associations that might lead the fox girl to tell the human guy that she can't get off unless they do this elaborate thing where she tries to sneak into a cardboard "henhouse" she's got set up beside her bed, complete with plushie chickens and plastic eggs, and she wants him to pick up a shotgun and kick the door in before he "shoots" her with his "love gun?"  I can hardly blame the guy if, instead of becoming excited, these circumstances leave him contemplating the life choices that have led him to this moment.

Maybe in the aforementioned example the guy says "But I just thought you were pretty.  Can't I just think you're pretty?  Does everything have to be political?  Does everything have to be a kink?"  I just like ladies with floofy tails.  Does this have to be political, fren?  Does it have to be somebody's kink?  Do we have to make everything uncomfortable and weird?  Can't we have nice things?
