It was an interest in memes.  I was reading Something Awful, and I found out about SA from a friend sending me Photoshop Phriday links.  That's how I found out there was this new place called "4 chan" run buy a guy named "moot," where they talked about foreign cartoons and made funny memes like "a master is out" and "y helo thar buttsecks?"
