Tricky question to ask, specially on subjects such as art.
But i would argue that having fun in the process is the *right* way.
Anyway, I really like the multiple tones of the fur and the heterochromia. 
It adds a ton of S0VL btw. Also Here's a silly tegaki. Hope you dont mind.

I think that OP should maybe try to redefine the arms, it's a bit confusing, 
I can't tell if the OC is wearing a cape, a cloak or a shirt with long sleeves.
