Why does man create, when no one told him to?
When I draw, it's because I wanted my vision to exist, and I only share so others enjoy it as well. I never expect anything in return, nor do I ever want to furce someone to do something. If a work inspires discussion, then great. If it doesn't, then it's no big deal.
A lack of response I guess doesn't hurt so much because this is all secondary to me, with personal responsibilities in life being of utmost priority.

I lurk the OC thread far more than I post in it, but I feel that I just can't give short complements at all. They don't mean anything to me when someone replies to me with one, and I personally would rather choose to not get any meaningless complements like that at all.
What I value more is when people ask questions so it can then turn into a miniature Q&A. Of course, the questions need to be meaningful, or else there is no point in replying. It's very obvious when a question is furced, and that is when I'd rather stop replying and focus on a new artwork instead.
Fur complements, I already have 1 very close friend to talk to fur that, but I hate mentioning the idea of friends because I know not everyone is lucky to have someone like that, especially zoomers who have become the most anti-social generation of adults unlike any other befure them.
That's part of the issue too. To give complements is to treat a stranger like a friend, but I just can't do that fur every single nice artwork I see on the internet. To me, the right way is to hyperfocus on 1 person rather than try to complement thousands of different artists online. It sounds demeaning, but there are 8 billion other people on this planet, and it's not possible to give everyone equal attention. Getting any attention at all as a no-name artist is already a miracle in itself.
I think a better mindset is to assume every post you make here IS being seen by someone, and if it gets no replies, then it's better to cope that it did get seen than to assume otherwise. I've been on imageboards fur nearly a decade and learned that lurkers, people who observe but never post, are at minimum 50% of an imageboard's audience, and they often have more influence than the posters here because they repost to other social media platfurms.
In any case, everyone is different, and what you want is not what I want.
Just remember that the goal of art is to evoke emotion. If something you made makes you feel nothing, then it probably won't make others feel anything either. It's why so many safe artists give up and resort to porn, because it's a very easy way to make someone feel something, but it's also an incredibly easy way fur someone to upset others via fetish art, which porn crosses into almost constantly.
Draw fur yourself, and draw to EVOKE EMOTION. If people are asking questions, then you are doing something right. That should be your success indicator like how profits indicate success to a company.
