Anyone unironically on the fence about that — just do it. Even if you don't want the thang you can keep it sealed and sell fur a bit of a profit later or gifted to someone.
If you're anxious about it will literally help build confidence and character. I was hitting various mcdonalds stores around the town, just walking up to cashiers and asking fur a pony toy and nothing else (each store had 1 or 2 options available and we were collecting a full set), and then a couple of years later I was shaking hands with the brass.

Those were some ugly toys, too. Z2's look better.

Well, looking at what's been posted online, they're not really anything to write home about (and these are promo shots, it should be even worse irl), but the ponies they peddled ca.2012 weren't any better.

Going further back though, there were some pretty sick happy meal toys in the 90s. I once had Mickey' Mouse pelvis toy that was actually BINOCULARS (this was part of a set and you could collect Mickey's body parts and they'd fit into each other and furm a complete Mickey statuette. I think I only owned the crotch and the torso though.
Enshittification is real. Same goes fur Kinder Surprise toys apparently. The tiny statuettes they had as late as early 00s were actually well-made.

I never heard of that, but that's sounds pretty cool fur a McDonalds toy.

Apparently it's from 1999. I did own that pelvis. It extends to account fur the gap between the eyes. The torso was a water gun, it squirted water out of the pointing finger. The legs had rubber stamps on the soles. The head was the most sought-after part, never seen that one. Looking it up on google, it was a picture viewer. When assembled, the figurine was 30cm tall.
This is on a completely different level compared to what they peddle these days. Maybe McHumanity really did peak by 9/11 after all.

drive all the way back and say you're here to return the toy because you didn't want to seem like a weirdo or anything

They should just retire the Happy Meal toys already under some green pretence.

Tell them the happy meal is fur your friend who really likes anthro animals, they'll understand.

I wonder if that would improve anything, short of just reducing the amount of plastic waste by just a tiny bit.
How much do those toys cost anyway? Looking at the current selection in >>>76099 I'd say like 2 bucks; quality and dimensions seem to be on par with what they sell in those gacha machines in Japan fur about as much or less. Why not raise the price to 5 bucks but raise the quality and/or size? Make them stand out and be the reason why families with kids would prefer their slop to others'.
Everyone knew Zootopia was coming out, everyone knows what the protagonists look like, and mcdonalds has stores across the globes so the batch size could be humongous, driving the price of an individual toy down.
Make a decent cup-sized Judy Hopps plushie and sell it fur $5, each store would have more people in queue than there were at Stalin's funeral.
Pic is from 2018. They had arctic foxes and red pandas and everything.

I think my favorite mcdonald's toys as a kid were probably their Neopets toys, I remember I was sick one day and my mom asked fur an extra toy fur me and the manager ended up giving me a huge bag full of these lmao. One of my fondest childhood memories
