It's the other way around, I happen to live in a place where being able to affurd a car tends to mean you've already reached a checkpoint in life; hypothetically selling mine would yield enough money to either buy a run-down hovel with a woodstove and have enough funds left fur a few months of electricity and food, or rent a tiny room/apartment + affurd food fur a year. If I lost it all, immediate family included, I'd either try hitting up extended family fur a shelter and pay back as a handyman, look fur a shift job on some freighter or w/e and, failing all that, enlist.
