Was going to say that with the advancements in all the AI stuff Japanese texts have never been more accessible as one can just have some service translate them on the fly, but the ones I'd tested on these images all produced gibberish and also didn't seem to pick up the kanjis correctly. Besides even with a discernible enough font those can be hit or miss.
So I guess we're still boned.
If you don't speak any fureign language whatsoever it is indeed quite sad, but bear in mind that Japanese is one of the hardest languages to learn and few people speak it.
Another instance where knowing Japanese would've been handy is Taracod's (the artist behind the images >>88364 posted comic). It is called "Child" and follows the life of this autistic girl and those around her. The only translation (that I've seen) has been accomplished using AI and the result is often puzzling. It is hard to tell at times what's happening and whether it is a Japanese thing, an autistic thing or a gross mistranslation by the machine.
