If (You) don't like something then post what (You) like instead

This board is an archive of threads that would otherwise have been slid and pruned (deleted). If you have a thread you'd like saved, post in the /meta/ thread at >>>/anthro/ with a thread you'd like a mod to save.

I usually do 3 layers: 1) just a rough outline 2) is what you see where I just draw shit and don't care about proportions, then I use the select tool and resize things (it looks blurry and awful) 3) i trace over the 2nd layer fixing up lines and take my time
Then I do a single layer under for flat colors, I stopped doing shading just because I still suck at it so I focus on what I'm good at. I plan to also do a background of wallstreet for this

What software do you use to draw?

My daily driver is a Linux box. I'm not S M R T enough for Krita or GIMP. I keep coming back to an MS Paint clone called Kolourpaint. I know layers are a thing but I keep on drawing with the mouse and coloring with the bucket tool.

I have a cheap tablet around here, too, but I am too lazy to figure it out. I know Krita has layers. I have occasionally copied and pasted something into Krita, made a new paint layer over it, and traced it, but it is a lot of work, and everything about Krita seems intimidatingly complex to me. I should learn to color in Krita at the very least but I'm too lazy, too dumb, or some combination of the two. GIMP intimidates me even more.

I gave up on 4chins some time back due to the poor signal/noise ratio and the bad moderation. From what I've heard, when they got pantsed by someone from the 'sharty, instead of taking it as a wakeup call, they doubled down. Rumor has it half their mod staff quit after getting doxxed. Rumor also has it that the proprietor hired himself a mob of Indians and paying them actual dollarydoos to do mod stuff It sounds like a dumpster fire, but not the fun kind. So, yeah. To the extent I frequent any imageboard these days, it's this one, at least for anthro-related stuff. I looked in on 8kun, 8moe, and zzzchan, and they're even worse than I remember.

That looks great man, it gives that old grimy comic book look. But about the making less ugly part, the only I could think off is maybe the muscles being slightly off, probably the shirt looking like a neck turtle since the collar is so high up the neck, and I guess the way she stands seems likes shes off balance. But it mostly really depends if you like the artstyle. Some people like it, some people don't

I'm gonna say it. You are deluding yourself by saying your art doesn't have soul. It very much has soul and it's own uniqueness too. Try to not look too much at other's arts and more at yours. It's easy to get demotivated if you compare yourself to ppl that do completely different stuff in completely different ways than you. I encourage you to not give up

you mentioned this was a hobby, so probably just turn off notifcations. One upside of imageboards is people here see everything, and it's not filtered by an algo, so anytime someone posts their art every anon will see it. The interaction here is also more genuine and honest. I notice a lot of comments on art on twitter is just 1 word replies or coom shit. Don't let a terrible platform demoralize you, and I'm guessing you're going through a lot just know anons are always here to appreciate ur art and give feedback if you ever want any
Replies: >>1314

Gaining popularity as a safe artist was always going to be an uphill battle. It's very easy to feel something from lewd art while not as easy with safe art, and it's those feelings that people chase.
I figure meme art and reaction images are some ways to make it as a safe artist, but ultimately draw for fun, and draw for yourself first. Focus on what you want man, for your sake.
I'd rather you feel happy with yourself, knowing that you've created something nice, than feel unhappy waiting for people to respond. Sometimes it's difficult to respond without it feeling like an empty complement, but the appreciation is there regardless :)

Here is the finished piece. I originally wanted to draw the ocs of everyone in the thread, but I figured it would take too long and I doubt people would want to see me draw their characters anyways. I wasn't satisfied with it at first, but after some reflection I realized why I was really feeling so demotivated lately and now I feel a lot better about my stuff.
I want to sincerely thank the creator and everyone who participated in this thread, even if you didn't complete the whole thing. I know to most of the other drawfags that this probably meant nothing to them, but for me it really reignited my passion for art and creativity. Without this thread, I would probably be wasting away playing War Thunder or something.
Now I'm going to try and focus my efforts on game development. Deltragem WILL be a real game. I would love to share progress in the future once I have something substantial to show, if anyone is interested. All this does sound really sad when I read it back. Oh well.
Enough rambling about stuff you guys don't care about.
Thank you again!

Just an observation but I think you tend to over detail your characters. I feel like you could paint bucket the first picrel with some lighter pastel colors, add some light shading, and you’d have a finished piece.
Replies: >>1379 >>1380 >>1385
>>1378
Yes, I'm aware. I just see detailed pieces on Twitter and feel that I have to overdesign the characters to be good enough.
Replies: >>1381
>>1378
Also I refuse to use the paint bucket tool

You’re in a pretty good spot, you got unique characters, good designs that convey personality, a spine that furrys lack.
>>1380
Your right for doing so.
>>1376
Actually I think I do have some advice coming from a consumer. I wouldn't worry to much on making everything perfect, only focus on the essentials. Don't be afraid to use placeholders for assets, until you decide to publish/release a game I as a user am more forgiving and will look past placeholders. If you can deliver the code gameplay, I can ignore the gray boxes on the background and give feedback on the gameplay itself. Later you can polish the art direction and fill in the blanks, but already have a solid base for a game so you aren't trying to do both things at the same time. If you ever have something to share you can drop it here and people will give feedback best they can (not everyone a game dev but everyone can try suggest something, and you don't need to listen to every suggestion you own the creative reigns). One thing I dislike about internet is a lot of people take things for granted, they play AAA games and forget they're made by thousands of people with millions dollar budgets and are very unfairly critical because of that.
Replies: >>1383
>>1382
Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try and offer playtests so I can get feedback. That'll probably be awhile though. First comes concepts and planning. I at least have the benefit of not working alone. My brothers are going to be working with me.

Long overdue but here's my attempt at a character with an evil eye.
I tried doing something with muscles in mind but it didn't work out.

So, I thought of a blind kitty that acts herself as a old lady but can see with her evil eye.
