The whole point was /v/.
They had the most posts and they were the reason for 8chan's popularity because gamergate discussion was banned on 4chan. There was a different posting culture to 4/v/, less posts per hour, less shitposts, higher quality OPs, and some good OC too.
/monster/ was very nice too. There's a bunker board for them and a few different alternatives for 8/v/, but it's not the same and they seem to be gradually dying.
Since IIRC anyone could make a board (hence the 8 in 8chan sometimes stylized as an infinity), there was a dedicated /fur/ as well, as opposed to 4chan's /trash/ and scattered general threads. Nate was the mascot, pic related.
